Figures we use

These values feed the calculators. They are stored as editable settings so they can be updated the moment the government changes them.

    How we work

We write about process, not people. We do not accept payment for editorial placement, and any commercial link on this site is labelled as such before you click it.

Where a figure is set by government — a probate fee, a tax threshold, a registration deadline — we store it as a single editable value with a source link and a review date, so it is corrected everywhere at once.

If you spot something out of date or wrong, tell us and we will check it against the official source.

When Someone Dies Guide provides general information and practical tools for educational purposes. It does not provide legal, financial, tax or medical advice. Rules and fees can change, and individual circumstances differ. Where appropriate, users should check current information with GOV.UK or a suitably qualified professional.
