General information only

When Someone Dies Guide provides general information and practical tools for educational purposes. It does not provide legal, financial, tax or medical advice. Rules and fees can change, and individual circumstances differ. Where appropriate, users should check current information with GOV.UK or a suitably qualified professional.

Rules, fees and thresholds differ across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and they change over time. Always check the official source we link to, and take professional advice for anything significant.

Figures and calculators

Calculators are estimating tools. Starting figures are labelled as estimates and every figure can be edited, so you can replace them with real quotes and statements. Results are not quotes, offers or valuations.

Your saved work

Checklists and calculators save on your own device. Clearing your browser data, using private browsing or switching device will lose your progress, so print or save anything you need to keep.

Links to other sites

We link to official bodies and organisations we believe are useful, but we do not control them and are not responsible for their content. Some links may be affiliate links; these are labelled where they appear.

Acceptable use

You may use this site for your own personal or professional purposes, including printing pages. Please do not copy substantial parts of the content to republish it as your own, or attempt to disrupt the site.

Liability

We work to keep this site accurate and available, but we cannot guarantee either. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss arising from decisions made on the basis of information on this site.
